A brief note

Where I cook

I cook in a small home kitchen, which is often a mess of dishes after someone is done cooking or baking in it. It feels like home especially when delightful smells are wafting out of it. It’s not a huge oriental kitchen with expensive equipment and lots of ingredients. There have been many times where we have had to make emergency trips to the store or I have had to adjust what I am making to what we have. One of the many reasons I like making cookies is they usually use the same 4 ingredients: flour, sugar, butter, and baking powder. There may be additional spices and flavors, but they all start with the same base and are easy to make with minimal equipment. You don’t have to be a professional to make people smile with them. And sure I love cooking as well, but I have a sweet tooth for sweets (:

Where I learned

I usually make cookies and desserts as I love them so much. However, my dad is an excellent cook in my humble opinion, and the family joke is that we can make homemade mac-and-cheese with a homemade alfredo sauce than we can make the box mac-and-cheese. For as far back as I can remember, my parents would be in the kitchen together, cooking up something amazing for dinner. We’ll have pizza nights where we make the dough and make a few pizzas from scratch. We’ll make Chili, or Enchiladas, or Lasagna. My brother loves Steak Chimichurri, and I love our Curried Couscous. Me and my brother have kinda been spoiled with food and I’m glad for it. It might make eating fast-food in a pinch a bit off-setting. But I believe that people should live to eat instead of eating to live. Good food can accomplish so many things, not the least of which is making people happy. I hope that through these recipes y’all find a little slice of happiness.

Advice

Don’t cook for yourself. Cooking is meant to be shared. Experiences are meant to be shared. Food brings people together, and experiences are remembered more than things, and in the end, they last much longer. You may travel a lot and go to a lot of cool places, or you may stay at home and still lead a very exciting life. I believe however that no matter what you do, the experiences you have and the people you share them with will never leave you. And sometimes, those best experiences and memories center around food.
So live to eat, don’t eat to live. Explore a bit with your taste pallet, and bring some friends along for the ride with you.
